I'm 50 miles from Bahamas. Some aid boats are on site.
A marina buddy is friends with a aid worker who texted him some horrid images.
It's much worse than what's reported. He showed me images of bodies everywhere. Those floating in the harbors are being eaten by sharks.
This is the stuff of nightmares. I had to share this somewhere but not Facebook.

Its unimaginable. The way that storm sat on top of the island for so long, and at such intensity.

Like katrina. Never go to attic unless you have an escape route from there or a saw.

Just starting to see some stories on the news that is saying "Thousands of casualties".
Makes me wonder. Was there no place that people could have gone to escape the winds and surge? Higher ground? Concrete structures?
An absolutely terrible and horrific event. May peace be with all those lost souls.

There were few places to hide from a storm like this. The highest point of land on any of these islands is 30 '.
Despite being the playground for the rich, the people are pretty poor. Homes are not well constructed.
Many were swept in the ocean and will never be found.

What a horrible inside story. I feel that stories and pictures have been extremely slow coming out of the Bahamas, which is never a good thing.

The USCG and the Bahama gov't have issued statements to stay away from the affected islands. Food, electric, fuel, communications and aids to navigation are nonexistent. The storm caused harbor shoaling and destroyed all wharfs and docks. People are in a desperate survival mode and civility is absent along with law enforcement. Looting is a matter of survival, not opportunity. The smell of death - human and animal - is everywhere.
This is what you don't hear on the news.

May peace be with all those lost souls. a young woman and crew from channel 10 Miami stayed in Marsh Harbor during the storm, they went into a 3 story concret hotel when the eye was getting close, they showed film of water in the stairwell and under the door of their room on the 3rd floor.
